Alice Rose Newman, 83, passed away on Feb. 1, 2020, at Lakeview Hospital.

Rose was born on Oct. 30, 1936, in Bogalusa. She was the daughter of James LaRue Fortenberry and Gabe Ellen Herring Fortenberry. Rose had two brothers, Charles “Dobb” Fortenberry and John “Bubber” Fortenberry, and an older sister, Charlie Mae “Peewee” Reid. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Charlie Mae, along with her loving husband of 66 years, R.C. Newman.

Rose is survived by her two daughters, Mary Ellen Newman Bailey (Jerry) and Tamara Newman Anderson (Mark). She was blessed with six grandchildren, Amber Hughes Purvis (Robby), Craig Mark Anderson Jr. (Kristi), Alicia Anderson Alexis (Patrick), Holly Hughes Mueller (Jimmy), Amanda Bailey and Jennifer Bailey Bursavich (Nick). Rose had 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Monroe Street Baptist Church, where she served as secretary for around 10 years. During her life, she was able to travel to many places, including Europe, Canada, and Hawaii. One of her favorite trips was when they traveled to Alaska. She loved to spend time with her family playing games or just visiting.

The Memorial Service will be held at Monroe Street Baptist Church on Saturday, Feb. 8. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., with the service to follow at 2 p.m. Pallbearers will include Jerry Bailey, Mark Anderson, Craig Anderson Jr., Robby Purvis, Jimmy Mueller and Patrick Alexis. Honorary pallbearers will include Bruce Reid, Anthony Reid, Mickey Fortenberry, Jamie Fortenberry, Dustin Fortenberry, Josh Fortenberry, Scooter Fortenberry and Denis Karrer. Brother Larry Lassley and Brother Chad Jenkins will officiate.
