James Javan Sandifer

James Javan Sandifer, 94, a resident of Bogalusa born Nov. 17, 1918, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at Resthaven Living Center.

He retired from Louisiana Power and Light Co. after 35 years of service. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

He served as a deacon and director of Sunday School at Calvary Baptist Church for many years. He was a past director of Sunday School for Washington Parish and vice president for Louisiana State Sunday School Board.

The family is comforted by the knowledge that his suffering with a long battle of Alzheimer’s is over and the strength of his faith.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ola Mae Sandifer; children, Ronald and Billie Jean Sandifer of Cental and Janice and Larry Galloway of Bogalusa; four grandchildren and spouses, Randy and Susan Sandifer of Central, Rhondi and John Kennedy of Central, Micheala and Donovan Guillory of St. Landry and Ricky and Beth Romano of Pineville; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara; his mother and father, Neil Sandifer and Fred Sandifer; brothers, Lejan and Donice Sandifer; and sisters, June Butler, Helen Collins and Elise Welch.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at Crain Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., with services following. Burial will follow at Bonner Creek Cemetery.
