Mattie Lewis, 99, a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Bassfield, Miss., passed away Friday, April 26, 2013, at Baton Rouge Health Care.

A graduate of Harper School in Bassfield, she was a longtime resident of Bogalusa and a minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She is survived by two daughters, Gercia L. Richardson and Mary P. Ruffin; a sister, Rosie Lee Price; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Alice Thompson; a brother, Clenward Thompson; two nephews, Wilma Ray Price and James Peters; one niece, Janie Harris; and one grandson, William Richardson.

Visitation will be Friday, May 3 at Winnfield Funeral Home in Baton Rouge from 1-4 p.m.

A religious service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4415 Groom Road, conducted by the Minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Interment will follow in Bogalusa Cemetery.
