Fatal Shooting at Bogalusa High School Basketball Game

UPDATE: Investigation Underway and Information Requested

The Bogalusa Police Department (BPD) released a statement regarding the shooting, though have not released the names of the victims. BPD said that on January 11, 2024, at 8:42 P.M., officers working at the basketball game at Bogalusa High School reported hearing numerous gunshots coming from the vicinity of M.J. Israel Dr and Avenue B. Responding to the scene, officers found two black male juveniles with gunshot wounds. Immediate first aid was administered, and EMS was requested while securing the scene.

Both victims were transported to Our Lady of the Angels Hospital. Tragically, one of the juveniles succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The other is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The Bogalusa Police Department is actively investigating the incident and urges anyone with information to contact them at 985-732-3611.

BOGALUSA, La. – A shooting occurred on the night of Thursday, Jan 11, at the Bogalusa High School during a basketball game, reportedly resulting in one fatality and one injury. The Bogalusa Police Department (BPD) is investigating the incident.

Details are still emerging. While the victim’s identity has not been released, early reports are saying it was a 14-year-old. The injured victim was reportedly shot in the leg. The incident was said to have occurred in a parking lot in between school grounds and the neighboring United States Post Office. The school was placed on lockdown and secured.

Authorities from the Bogalusa Police Department and Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office are on site, and an investigation is underway. The department has been contacted for further comment on this developing story.

“My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends affected by the tragic incident outside the basketball game tonight at BHS. We are working closely with law enforcement to investigate the circumstances. Our community stands together in grief, and we will do everything in our power to ensure the safety of our residents at public events,” said Bogalusa Mayor Tyrin Truong in a statement.
