2023 Hannan Hustle: First Round Concludes, Sets Stage for Second Round

The 2023 Hannan Hustle basketball tournament kicked off with a thrilling first round on December 21, showcasing the prowess of young athletes across multiple schools. Hosted at Hannan with additional games at Coquille, the event promises intense competition and high-spirited games.

The tournament opened with Pine securing a solid victory over Loranger, 44-33. A. Phelps led the scoring for Pine with 14 points, closely followed by D. Sumrall’s contribution. For Loranger, S. Thomas and Cameron Covert stood out with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Mandeville demonstrated dominance in their matchup against Kenner Discovery, clinching a 78-20 victory. Hannah Benoit was the star performer for Mandeville, scoring an impressive 21 points. Kenner Discovery’s C. Alexander put up a valiant effort with 11 points.

In a closely contested match, Chapelle edged out Hammond with a 29-25 win. Kaylee Dublin was Chapelle’s top scorer with 9 points. On the other side, Jones led Hammond with 10 points.

The hosts, Hannan, showcased their strength by defeating Bogalusa 55-19. McKenna Sinon’s exceptional 21-point performance was a highlight for Hannan. W. Pam was the top scorer for Bogalusa with 6 points.

Northshore triumphed over Mt. Carmel 42-33, with Graham leading the charge for Northshore. Dominican faced a tough match against Lakeshore, with Lakeshore emerging victorious 44-36, thanks to O. Turkin’s 16-point contribution. Fontainebleau narrowly defeated Parkview Baptist 46-41 in another exciting game, with I. Chevalier scoring 18 points for Fontainebleau.

Looking Ahead: Second Round

The second round, scheduled for December 22, promises more excitement. Key matchups include Liberty against Lakeshore and Northshore taking on Fontainebleau. Pine will face Mandeville, while Chapelle challenges the host team, Hannan. Additional games at Coquille will determine the fate of other teams in the tournament.
