Bowling Green School’s Cael McDaniel has been chosen to represent Powerlifting America and the U.S.A at the World Championships in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
The event takes place on Aug. 27 and McDaniel will be lifting for Team U.S.A.
“Making the team is really special,” McDaniel said. “There are other kids in the area that have done it. Going from the state level to the national and then to the world is a big difference and you have to be fully committed.”
McDaniel, who just completed his junior year, has been powerlifting since he was 13.
He talked about what he feels has made him so successful.
“My drive,” McDaniel said. “I feel like I work harder than most people do. I’ve had bigger opportunities, but I worked for those opportunities.”
McDaniel said he is lifting six days a week.
He lifts in the 231.5-262-pound weight class.
McDaniel lifted at the Powerlifting America High School Nationals on April 2 in Scranton, Pa. He came in 1st Place at the National Champion, Mens Equipped Varsity 120 kilo. He represented Bowling Green School.
