The 16th annual Sports Work Academy Basketball Camp will take place on June 17 at the YMCA in Bogalusa.
“We’re excited,” co-Camp Director Michael Galloway said. “I get excited to come home for the camp each year. It’s like a big family reunion. It’s awesome to come home, partner with the community and teach these kids basketball and life skills.”
Galloway, who is a 1985 graduate of Bogalusa, co directs the camp with former LSU and Portland Trailblazers player Nikita Wilson.
Galloway and Wilson will be joined on the coaching staff by his brother and 1981 Bogalusa graduate Murrell Galloway and Basketball Elite’s O’Brian Calahan.
Michael Galloway said there will be a new twist this year, as they have a combine style drill set that the kids will go through to measure all of the fundamental skills. They’ll be scored and a database will be created. When they come back to the camp each year, they’ll be able to see how they progress since the previous year.
The clinic starts at 8:30 a.m. and the fee is $20.
