Pine’s baseball team was defeated by Sterlington, 9-2 and 11-4, in games held April 27-28 on the road in the regional round of the Division III non select playoffs.
In the 9-2 game, Lucas Lemaire hit a two-run homer.
It was his first career home run.
Hayden Logsdon singled and scored a run.
Ethan Ryals singled.
In the 11-4 contest, Preston Stogner doubled and drove in two runs.
Lemaire singled and scored a run.
Ryals and Brady Polk both scored a run and Logsdon drove in a run.
No. 20 Pine went 16-12 this year.
This season, Pine had one senior in Lemaire.
Pine coach Blake Dillon said that Lemaire did a great job of guiding a young team.
“He showed the younger players what it takes to be an everyday starter on our team by doing all the little things right that make you a great teammate and an asset to the team,” Dillon said. “Lucas is loved by every player, coach and person that he is around.”
Dillon said that Pine learned a lot about themselves over the course of the season.
“We came Into the season as a young inexperienced team with only three players who had ever started a varsity game,” Dillon said. “Over the course of the season we grew tremendously! The character and work effort of our players improved as we figured out what it took to be a competitive baseball team on a daily basis. We ended the season on a good note. We moved up a classification this year and we were able to still go on the road and win a playoff series. We are really excited about all of our players coming back for next season and expect them to continue to grow mentally and physically!”
No. 4 Sterlington (24-9) will play against No. 5 Berwick (17-14) in the quarterfinals.
