Bogalusa’s Thompson wins the javelin

Bogalusa’s Haikem Thompson captured the javelin and three locals had second-place finishes across four events in the Jewel Sumner Cowboy Relays that were held on Friday.

Thompson had a throw of 153 feet, 9 inches to win the event.

Teammate Tremon Ratliff along with Franklinton teammates Bryce Hall and Beau Webb were fifth, 11th and 12th with throws of 127-11, 90-0 and 89-7 respectively.

Franklinton teammates Kelly Daniels, Andrew Crain and Bogalusa’s Desmond Ramirez were second in their events.

Daniels was second in the 100 meters after running it in 11.48 seconds.

Teammate Rayshone Manuel and Bogalusa’s Christian Gable were ninth and 17th at 12.04 and 12.83. Kentwood’s Jermaine Brown won in 11.06.

Crain ran the 1,600 and 3,200. He ran the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 23 seconds and the 3,200 in 12:21.

Teammate Stephen Pickering was 10th in the 1,600 at 6:29. Jewel Sumner’s Silas Childress won both events with times of 5:17 and 12:13.

Ramirez was second for the triple jump with a distance of 40-7.

Teammate Lance Johnson came in fifth after recording a 37-8. Kentwood’s Jer’michael Carter won with a 41-0.5.

The meet featured two teams from Washington Parish in Bogalusa and Franklinton.

Several competitors came in third place locally.

Ramirez was third in the 400 after clocking a 53.71.

Franklinton’s teammates Christian Young and Jacob Crain along with Bogalusa’s Gable were sixth, eighth and 10th with times of 57.3, 58.28 and 1:00. Loranger’s Preston rogers won in 52.46.

Bogalusa’s Lance Johnson was third for the 300 hurdles at 48.56

Kentwood’s Roger Tobias won in 45.20.

Franklinton came in third in three relay races, including the 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800 with times of 1:35, 3:54 and 10:22.

The 4×200 team had Manuel, Micah Hart, Christiun Martin and Daniels. The 4×400 group included Jakobie McCormick, Jacob Crain, Ahmod Partman, Christian Young. The 4×800 team had Curtis WIlliams, Edward Hillburn, Jacob Hillburn, Partman.

Kentwood won the 4×200 and 4×400 at 1:31 and 3:40 with Loranger capturing the 4×800 in 10:00.

Manuel and teammate Quentin Watson were fourth and 10th in the 200 with times of 24.03 and 29.86. Brown won the 200 in 22.08.

Franklinton’s Andre Callais, Bogalusa’s Ken’yin Guynes and Franklinton’s David Moore were fifth, ninth and 11th in the discus with throws of 108-3, 81-11 and 80-3. West Feliciana’s Ted Jackson won at 137-2.

Moore, Bogalusa’s Kenneth Keys, Franklinton’s Callais and Bogalusa’s Ratliff were sixth, eighth, 11th and 12th in the shot put with distances of 36-8, 35-0, 33-2, 32-6. West Feliciana’s Delvin Whitaker won at 45-0.

Johnson, Manuel, Ramirez and Martin were sixth, eighth, 10th and 13th in the long jump with distances of 18-5.25, 18-8.75, 18-0.25 and 16-8.25. Brown won at 22-6.5.

Williams came in eighth for the 800 at 2:30 with Childress winning in 2:17.

Kentwood won the meet with 164 points, as eight teams scored points.

Jewel Sumner was second at 105, followed by Loranger’s 92, West Feliciana’s 60 and Franklinton rounded out the top five with 56. Bogalusa was sixth with 35.
