Varnado’s boys basketball team was defeated by Geo Next Generation High School, 42-38, in a road game that was held on Monday.
Zeke Humphrey scored eight points, pulled down seven rebounds and blocked two shots.
Jamari Lewis posted eight points and five boards.
Tyren Downs recorded seven points, five rebounds and a blocked shot.
William Hardge tallied five points, six rebounds and two blocks.
Devonte Magee put up five points.
Tyriq Bell and Tillias Hall both had two points.
Chase Brooks posted one point.
“We have to learn how to finish close games when it’s down to the wire,” Varnado coach Mace Copeland said. “The team with the most turnovers usually has a lesser chance of winning. We turned the ball over constantly in the last two games. We have to learn how to hold the lead and keep our emotions in check. Once we get rolling, we will be a tough team to stop in 1A. Guys are still learning the offense and the defense. I also am still learning my players’ skills. Once we all get past the learning curve, we will be unstoppable.”
Varnado’s next game will be on Nov. 29 against Plaquemine on the road.
