Varnado defeated by Riverside Academy

Varnado was defeated by Riverside Academy, 56-0, in a District 10-1A game that was held at home on Friday.
“Our kids played hard,” Varnado coach Adam Brumfield said. “They were just bigger, faster and had a lot more players than us. When you have that combination along with disciplined kids it’s a recipe for winning.”
Riverside went into last week ranked seventh in Class 1A for the Louisiana Sports Writers Association poll. They moved up to fifth this week.
Varnado is 3-6 overall this season and 2-2 in league play and is 28th in the unofficial Division IV non-select powerpoints ratings.
Riverside Academy is 8-1 overall and 4-0 in league play.

Varnado will play its final regular season game on Friday against St. Martin’s Episcopal in a road game.
“This week we have St. Martin on the road, who is a good team, with only one loss,” Brumfield said. “If we win, we will be in the playoffs. If not it depends what other teams do so we have a lot to play for.”
St. Martin’s Episcopal is 8-1 overall and 3-1 in league play. St. Martin’s Episcopal’s only loss was against Riverside Academy, 35-7.
St. Martin’s Episcopal is fifth in the Division IV select power points ratings.
St. Martin’s Episcopal is among others receiving votes in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A poll.
