Ben’s Ford defeated by undefeated Newton Academy in Friday’s game

Ben’s Ford Christian School was topped by undefeated Newton Academy, 64-54, in a District 2A2 game that was held on Friday.

“I’m proud of the way our boys played,” Ben’s Ford Christian School coach Destin Pittman said.

“Anytime you play an undefeated team that’s as good as that team is, as a coach, you just want your kids to be competitive and I believe we did that plus some. We gave ourselves a chance to win it. We just didn’t finish the game, but I’m proud of the way our boys handled themselves and played that game.”

Caleb Mathews ran for 200 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns.

Ein Knight threw for 109 yards and two touchdowns, while running for 144 yards and two scores.

Jonah Holston caught two passes for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Nate Descant posted two catches for 39 yards and a score.

Gage Adams made one catch for 8 yards. Defensively, Adams made five stops and an interception.

Dashell Houston returned five kickoffs for 298 yards and a touchdown. He had a 59.6 yard average per kickoff return. Defensively, Houston made 7.5 tackles.

Michael Easterling posted five stops.

Ezra Nobles and Brantley Dyess both had 4.5 tackles with 0.5 sacks. Nobles made two stops for a loss and Dyess had 0.5 stops for a loss.

K.K. Tervalon recorded one tackle and 0.5 for a loss.

Ben’s Ford is 3-5 overall and 2-2 in district, while Kemper is 8-0 overall and 5-0 in league play.

Ben’s Ford is ranked 11th in powerpoint ratings for Class 2A.

On Friday, Ben’s Ford will travel to Kemper for its final regular season game of this year.

“I think this will be a good week for us to get back on track. Hopefully our offense can keep rolling and our defense can step up and see we’ll where we’re at for the playoffs,” Pittman said.

Kemper Academy comes in with a 2-6 overall record and 1-3 in league play.
