Bowling Green School was defeated by Silliman Institute, 21-13, on homecoming night on Friday.

“We played well,” Bowling Green coach Phill Junkins said. “The kids played hard. Josiah rushed for 197 yards (and a touchdown).”

Junkins said that the thing that caught them was that players were dealing with sickness.

“We have no excuses,” Junkins said. “We just didn’t win a game. Everybody makes mistakes, but we gave up a second half kickoff return deep into our own territory. We had an interception deep into our own territory and both of those resulted in touchdowns and we just couldn’t get that cranked back up. We outgained them. We had 300 yards of total offense and they had 294, so it’s an even ballgame. We just came up short. Now we have to turn around, get ourselves healed up and unsick and play against a good Presbyterian team. We keep climbing the ladder. We played a good 5A team and now we play a good 6A team this week, so it’s not getting any easier.”

Kyron Cowart ran for 74 yards.

Bryce Graham scored a touchdown.

Alex Brock hit an extra point.

Defensively, Junkins said that Morgan Verret played well and Bryce Graham had some big tackles.

Graham recorded five tackles.

Verret and Cowart both made four stops.

Bowling Green will be back in action on Friday when they play against Presbyterian Christian School on the road.

Presbyterian Christian School begins this week with a 3-3 record after a 17-6 loss to Oak Forest Academy.

Last year, Bowling Green was defeated by Presbyterian Christian School, 51-6.
