Bogalusa’s Ashton Levi threw for four touchdowns and ran for another in the first half of a 44-21 victory over Franklinton, as the Lumberjacks won the Pine Burr Trophy for the fourth-straight year.

Levi threw for 320 yards and five touchdowns, while running for one more score.

“That’s exactly what we expect out of him,” Bogalusa coach Cyril Crutchfield said. “He’s a baller, but we’ve got a lot of players, so we’re excited.”

Bogalusa got on the board first when Levi connected with Aquinas Roberts on a 49-yard completion along the right sideline. Levi added the two-point conversation to make it 8-0 with 9:46 left in the first quarter. Along the way, Bogalusa had two third-down conversations, including the touchdown pass.

After a Franklinton punt, Bogalusa went up 14-0 with Levi completing a touchdown pass to Reynis Morris-Payne from 21 yards out with 5:47 to go.  The two-point conversation was no good.

It stayed that way until the second quarter.

Bogalusa turned the ball over on downs after an incompletion from a fake punt. The Demons drove 64 yards and scored when Zion Anders hooked up with Daniel Bryant on a 17-yard pass. The extra point was no good, keeping it 14-6 with 10:10 left in the first half.

Bogalusa scored the half’s final 24 points.

Levi ran for a 33-yard score for a 20-6 lead.

Roberts added six more when he returned an interception 37 yards for the score.

One play after a turnover on downs, Levi hooked up with Morris-Payne on a 65-yard score with 3:03 left.

Just over a minute later, Mikiha Sartin recovered a fumble and Bogalusa scored on the first play from scrimmage with Levi throwing a touchdown pass to Desmond Ramirez on a 39 yarder with 2:01 on the clock.

All four two-point conversions were no good and it was 38-6 at halftime.

“Sometimes, that momentum kind of shifts, it kind of goes both ways and you get it going and it seems like you can’t do no wrong. We got hot right there and that kind of maybe put it away for us, but we still came out and played,” Crutchfield said.

Bogalusa added to its lead with five minutes left in the third quarter when Levi threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Tyron Jackson. The extra-point attempt was no good, keeping it at 44-6.

Franklinton scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Anders scored on a two-yard run and then converted for two to make it 44-14 with 9:31 left.

Rayshone Manuel tallied on a nine-yard rush. Kade Lavigne hit the extra point for the final point of the night with 2:33 left that made it 44-21.

“We didn’t execute. We made a lot of mental mistakes,” Franklinton coach Guy LeCompte said.

Both teams are at home on Sept. 9

Bogalusa will play Slidell, while Franklinton will go against Covington.
