Special to the Daily News

Thanks to Bino’s and their fabulous staff for making May 21 a great day for ex-Lumberjack coaches and players, a day to remember.

Bino’s has supported this activity for 24 years. A big thank you to Angelo Pepe and Elmer Corkern for beginning this tradition.

To have four decades of players represented was marvelous. Players from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960 and 1970s were present.

Former coaches present were Calvin Hymel, Gary Magee, Ken Martin and Eddie Walker. Coach Magee spoke about his first carry of the football and he galloped for a 65-yard touchdown. He also spoke about the 1975 relay team that had the fastest time in the nation as reported by ESPN News.

Coach Walker spoke about the new BHS track being built. The track will replace the worn out track that has been used for many years. He is enlisting ex-track players and retired coaches to assist during track season.

The group heard from head football coach Cyril Crutchfield about the Lumberjack team going through spring practice. How important it is to make each player accountable on the field as well as in the classroom. He gave the schedule for next year. The Lumberjacks will play teams in Class 4A and 5A. The schedule is loaded to prepare the Lumberjacks for district.

Many memories were shared and stories told. The Lumberjack history is of great accomplishments and many heroes will always be told in Bogalusa. If anyone knows of players that want to attend next year, please have them text or call John Bergeron at 985-264-6742. We invite all that want to attend. Our call is ‘Lumberjacks Forever.’
