Bowling Green’s Burford reaches to Class 5A state in the long jump

Bowling Green School’s Zeke Burford has qualified for the state meet after coming in fourth place in the long jump at the 2022 Class 5A South State Meet that was last Wednesday at Silliman Institute.

Burford long jumped 18 feet, 1.5 inches. Adams County Christian Academy’s Jamar Kaho won the event with a distance of 20-11.

Last Wednesday’s meet was a qualifier. The top four from each event are headed to the Class 5A state meet. The Class 5A state meet will be held on Friday at Jackson Academy. Bowling Green School was the only school in Washington Parish in the meet.

Bowling Green athletes were also in three other events.

Aiden Hodges was fifth in the shot put at 40-11. Oak Forest Academy’s Scott White won the event with a distance of 48-4.5.

Burford was seventh in the high jump at 5-8. Oak Forest Academy’s Brandon Conerly cleared the bar at 6-4 to win.

Track events were held on Saturday.

Bowling Green School’s 4×100 relay team came in fifth after running in 46.94 seconds. The group included Deviun Bickham, Kyron Cowart, Josiah Miller and Morgan Verret. Oak Forest Academy won in 44.65.

Silliman Institute won the meet with 90 points, as eight teams posted points.

Oak Forest Academy was second with 81, followed by Adams County Christian Academy’s 46, St. Joseph Catholic School of Madison’s 39 and Cathedral Unit School and Columbia Academy tied for fifth with five points. Bowling Green was seventh with five points.
