Pine’s Magee, Varnado’s Wiggins make it to regionals

Pine’s Cameron Magee and Varnado’s Gabrielle Wiggins are headed to regionals after qualifying in the District 9-2A Meet that was held on Monday, April 18 at Ponchatoula.
Magee made it to regionals with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters after running the race in 3 minutes, 1 second. Amite’s Jalencia Pierre won in 2:48.
Wiggins will compete in regionals in the long jump after coming in fourth with a distance of 13 feet, 1 inch. Pierre won the event at 17-3.5.
Monday’s competition was a qualifier. The top four in each event made it to regionals. The Region 3-2A Meet will be on Wednesday at Tad Gormley Stadium.
Wiggins was also fifth in the 400 and 100 hurdles. She ran the 400 in 1:18 and the 100 hurdles at 22.40 seconds. Amite’s Hal’ley Brumfield won the 400 in 1:09 and Kentwood’s Mi’quala Williams was the winner in the 100 hurdles at 19.22.
