Bogalusa’s Roberts wins Field MVP

Bogalusa’s Aquinas Roberts was the Field MVP in the District 8-3A Meet and several Lumberjacks qualified for regionals in last Wednesday’s competition at Jewel Sumner.
Roberts won the triple jump and came in second for the high jump.
Roberts triple jumped 38 feet, 9 inches and he high jumped 5-6.
Desmond Ramirez came in third place for the triple jump with a distance of 37-2.5. Archbishop Hannan’s Jaylen Taylor won the high jump at 5-10.
Wednesday’s meet was a qualifier. The top four from each event are headed to regionals. The Region 3-3A Meet will take place on Wednesday at West Feliciana. Bogalusa is the only team from Washington Parish in District 8-3A.
Haikem Thompson was second in the javelin with a throw of 128-1. Jewel Sumner’s Andres Moreno won at 132-4.
Bogalusa’s 4×400 relay and 4×200 relay team were second and third with times of 4 minutes, 6 seconds and 1:43. The 4×200 group included Jamarian Magee, De’Marcus Holmes, Tyren Jackson and Reynis Morris. The 4×400 team had Magee, Jackson, Morris and Ramirez. Jewel Sumner won both races with times of 1:33 in the 4×200 and 3:56 for the 4×400.
Ramirez came in third for the long jump at 18-5.5 with Loranger’s Jeremiah Grady winning at 21-5.5.
Ramirez was fourth in the 400 with a time of 57.15 seconds. Albany’s Antoine Taylor won the race in 53.39.
Jackson is headed to regionals after coming in fourth place for the discus at 103-8, as Jewel Sumner’s Desmond Collins Jr. won with a throw of 113-8.
Two more Lumberjacks competed in the meet.
Harley McGowan was sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:51. Albany’s Taylor won in 2:13.
Magee was eighth in the 200 at 26.68. Jewel Sumner’s Brennan Self won in 23.66.
Jewel Sumner won the team competition with 136.5 points.
Loranger was second with 96.5, followed by Archbishop Hannan’s 46, Bogalusa’s 40 and Albany’s 26.
