Bogalusa’s Gibson captures shot put, comes in 2nd for the discus

Bogalusa’s Cierra Gibson recorded a first and second-place finish at the Jewel Sumner Cowboy Relays that was on April 1.

Gibson won the shot put and came in second in the discus. Gibson’s shot put distance was 30 feet, 8 inches, while she threw the discus 85-6. Franklinton teammates Keteylar Hodges and Arielle Magee and Bogalusa’s Te’niya Brown were fifth, 12th and 13th in the shot put with distances of 25-9, 19-3 and 18-9.

Franklinton’s Jennifer Dong and Kadence Smith along with Bogalusa’s Brown were fourth, 11th and 15th in the discus with throws of 76-9, 56-7 and 39-5. Loranger’s Madyson Shields won the discus with a distance of 94-0.

Bogalusa’s Shantazia Taylor and Franklinton’s Ka’Niyha Dillon ran fifth and seventh in the 400 meters with times of 1 minute, 13 seconds and 1:21. Kentwood’s Raven Diamond won in 1:09.

Bogalusa’s 4×100 relay team and the Lady Jacks’ 4×200 team were both sixth, while Franklinton’s 4×200 group was seventh. Bogalusa ran the 4×100 in 59.33 seconds with a group that featured Kaliyah Collins, Essence Scott, Johnisha Toney and Je’Donnia Alexander. Bogalusa’s 4×200 team ran in 2:09, while Franklinton’s time was 2:10. Bogalusa’s team included Collins, Scott, Toney and Taylor, while Franklinton’s squad featured Aleigha Dalton, Mercedez Lopez, T’Kyra Robinson and Hope Phelps. Kentwood won the 4×100 in 50.67 and West Feliciana topped the 4×200 in 1:46.

Gibson and Brown along with Franklinton’s Jakyla McClane and Magee were seventh, eighth, 13th and 14th for the javelin with throws of 66-11, 56-4, 38-10 and 35-3. St. Thomas Aquinas’ Jordyn Correjolles won at 93-5.

Franklinton’s Aleigha Dalton, Bogalusa’s Sha’Kenzie Jefferson and Johnisha Toney were eightth through 10th in the 100 hurdles with times of 21.69, 21.83 and 23.49. Loranger’s Madison Ackerman won the event in 16.28.

Bogalusa’s Karisma Carer was ninth in the triple jump with a distance of 21-10. Amite’s Jalencia Pierre won with a distance of 36-2.

Franklinton’s Carli Smith and Bogalusa’s Re’Navia McCray were 10th and 11th in the long jump with results of 13-0 and 10-9.6. Pierre’s 18-6 was the winning distance.

McCray and Carter came in 10th and 12th for the 800 after running in 3:21 and 4:09. West Feliciana’s Madeline Temple won in 2:34.

Scott, Toney and Franklinton’s Amiryan Dyson were 12th through 14th for the 200 with times of 33.53, 33.92 and 34.21. Loranger’s Tori Burton won at 26.20.

Toney, Dalton and Scott were 13th through 15th in the 100 after running in 14.79, 15.20 and 15.60. Kentwood’s Tanaya Diamond won in 12.53.

Bogalusa and Franklinton came in seventh and eight with 22 and 6 points.

West Feliciana won the meet with 182 points, as eight teams posted points.

Loranger was second with 98, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas’ 90, Kentwood’s 68 and Amite’s 63 to round out the top five.

Bogalusa’s next competition will be next week in the District 8-3A Meet at Jewel Sumner. Franklinton will compete again at the district meet that will be at Lakeshore.
