The Southern Miss baseball team continues its seven-game, season-opening homestand, Tuesday, Feb. 22, when they entertain South Alabama in a 6 p.m. contest at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
The Golden Eagles (3-0) enter the contest fresh off a three-game sweep of North Alabama last weekend, outscoring the Lions 29-5 in the set.
The team collected double-digit hits in all three games as Danny Lynch hit safely in all three contests to extend his team-long hitting streak to 14 games, which dates back to last season.
Southern Miss pitching also limited UNA to just two earned runs and the team holds a 0.67 earned run average through the first three games. In addition, Golden Eagle pitching registered 38 strikeouts and allowed only four walks.
This will be the first of three meetings between the schools with the two teams playing again in Hattiesburg, Tuesday, March 8, and Tuesday, May 3, in Mobile.
Southern Miss looks to snap a five-game losing streak to the Jaguars (1-2), who opened the season at home with a 6-5 victory over Radford, before falling to Oral Roberts 3-1, and Tennessee Tech 11-7 at Eddie Stanky Field on the South Alabama campus.
The Golden Eagles are set to send sophomore right-hander Tanner Hall (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound tomorrow and he will face southpaw Tyler Lehrmann (0-0, 0.00 ERA) for the Jaguars.
Following the South Alabama contest, the Golden Eagles finish the homestand with a three-game weekend series against Jacksonville State. Game times are 6 p.m., Friday, 2 p.m., Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Tickets for any Southern Miss home game can be purchased by going online to SouthernMissTickets.com or at the Pete Taylor Park Box Office, starting two hours prior to each scheduled game.
