Several volunteers worked on improving Varnado High School’s softball field that is located at the old Angie High School site in preparation for the season. The group worked Monday and Tuesday. They dug out the top soil and then they added the clay dirt. After that, they smoothed it off, got the dimensions on the field before putting in lines and bases and they put in a flagpole. The group is going to put final touches on the field. Varnado will begin the season on March 1 against St. Helena College and Career Academy in a game, which will take place on that field.

Varnado coach Karen Creel expressed her thankfulness for the work the volunteers have done.

“I am humbled by and thankful for the efforts of the Varnado High School Booster Club and members of the Varnado and Angie community who have volunteered their time, energy and money to help our team have an even nicer field at the Angie Junior High facility,” Creel said. “This is exactly what the Lady Cats team and coaching staff needed to start off a winning Varnado softball season. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from our fans.”
