Keon Clergeot scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Southeastern Louisiana University men’s basketball team to a 78-68 win over the University of Incarnate Word Saturday afternoon at the University Center.

Clergeot, after missing Thursday’s game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi due to illness, finished the game 8-for-13 from the field, including 6-for-8 from the three-point line. The Winter Haven, Florida native was also 7-for-8 from the free throw line surpassing his previous career-high of 26 points in a win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Jan. 13, 2021.

SLU (11-11, 3-2 Southland) finished the game 10-for-26 (38.4 percent) from the three point line marking the 10th time Southeastern has made 10 or more threes in a game this season. The Lions also shot 85 percent (24-for-28) from the free throw line, including 14-for-17 in the second half.

Jalyn Hinton aided Clergeot’s efforts scoring 19 points and grabbing nine rebounds. The Boston native also blocked three shots to add to his conference lead. The senior was perfect from the field shooting 6-for-6 and was flawless at the free throw line (7-for-7).

UIW (4-18, 0-5 Southland) was led by R.J. Glasper with 22 points, including six three-pointers. Johnny Hughes III added 21 points while snatching nine rebounds and Charlie Yoder scored 12 for the Cardinals.

The Lions opened the game on a 7-0 run in the game’s first 1:30. However, UIW battled back as it hit six three-pointers in the first half to hold a 39-38 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Southeastern’s defense led the charge as they forced the Cardinals into 13 of their 21 turnovers leading to 28 points.

SLU had a 69-68 lead with just 2:58 left before clamping down defensively holding the Cardinals scoreless the rest of the way. The Lions converted seven of eight free throws in the final two minutes to seal the win.

Next up, Southeastern will hit the road to face McNeese (8-13, 2-2 Southland) Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in Lake Charles, Louisiana
