Troy’s Carles Anton and ULM’s Hala Badwy are off to strong starts to the 2022 season and have been named Sun Belt Conference Tennis Players of the Week.
Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Carles Anton, Troy

Trojans’ sophomore Carles Anton, the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, is off to a great start to the spring season with a combined 8-1 mark across singles and doubles. Anton defeated the No. 121-ranked singles player in the country with a 5-7, 6-2, 11-9 win against Miami’s Dan Martin. He split his singles work across courts one and two, and is undefeated this spring in doubles with his partner Pelayo Antuna.
Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Hala Badwy, ULM
(Jr., Cairo, Egypt)
Warhawks’ junior Hala Badwy opened the spring dual season with a dominating performance, sweeping Grambling’s Brittney Combest, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 1 singles. She paired with newcomer Alex Anghel at No. 1 doubles for a 6-3 win over Grambling’s Lungile Ntuli and Claire Machisa. ULM picked up a 6-1 win in the first dual for new head coach Abdelrahman Zaki.
