After leading the Southeastern Louisiana University men’s basketball team to the Southland Tip-Off title this past weekend, Senior Keon Clergeot earned Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Clergeot, out of Winter Haven, Florida, averaged 14.3 points and 5.6 assists for the weekend helping the Lions (7-9) to wins over HBU, McNeese and Nicholls.

In Thursday’s game against HBU, Clergeot scored 17 points on 5-for-8 shooting and was 5-or-6 from the free throw line. The Lions’ guard also dished out eight assists in the 90-81 win over the Huskies.

Clergeot handed out five more assists with three coming during a game-deciding 11-1 run for the Lions in an 83-78 victory over McNeese on Friday

Clergeot saved his best for Saturday’s title game against Nicholls scoring 19 points with four assists in a 77-72 triumph to seal the tournament crown.

Monday’s announcement marks Clergeot’s second time to receive the award in his Lions’ career. The UMass transfer earned the same honor on Dec. 28, 2020 after scoring 25 points in a 77-70 victory over Grambling on the road.

Clergeot continues to add to his SLU resume which includes 572 career points and 203 made free throws.

The Lions and Clergeot will be back in action this week as they play their first home games since Nov. 22nd. SLU will take on Tougaloo College (11-6) out of Mississippi Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Northwestern State (4-13) Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Southland Conference opener.
