Lady Lions’ season ends in Southland Quarterfinals

The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team’s season came to an end Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament following a four-set loss to UIW, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, at Sharp Gym.
UIW (13-18) won two of the three matchups this season against the Lady Lions (9-18) and will advance to play conference regular-season champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the semifinals.
Cicily Hidalgo, the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year, recorded her 14th double-double of the season with a11 digs and a match-high 15 kills. Junior outside hitter Addie Vidrine added 12 kills and three service aces while hitting a team-best .417 on the attack. Freshman middle blocker Kibi Huggins contributed eight kills.
Junior setter Ariana Hebert handed out 22 assists and served up a pair of aces. Freshman Gracie Duplechein dished out an additional 20 assists for SLU while sophomore libero Calli Collins led the team with 14 digs.
Freshman middle blocker Hannah Haerer had a hand in seven of the Lady Lions’ 14 total blocks.
Hidalgo (412 kills) moved up two spots into seventh place on Southeastern’s single-season kills list, bypassing both Angel Mauterer (398 kills, 1997) and Courtney Donald (409 kills, 2012). She also ranks sixth on the program’s single-season attacks list (1,217).
