Georgia State’s Sullivan tallies season-high 5 tackles, 24 Sun Belt alumni appear in NFL week 9

Eight Sun Belt alumni on the defensive side of the ball accumulated 19 tackles, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, one pass defended and one sack. Arkansas State alumnus and New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis paced all Sun Belt alumni with six tackles on the week, while Georgia State product Chandon Sullivan—a defensive back for the Green Bay Packers—added a season-high five tackles, including one for a loss.
Troy alumnus and Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Mario Addison made it back-to-back weeks with a sack, which was also a tackle for loss and quarterback hit.
Defensive back Anthony Chesley (Coastal Carolina, Indianapolis Colts), defensive back Josh Norman (Coastal Carolina, San Francisco 49ers), defensive back Kindle Vildor (Georgia Southern, Chicago Bears), defensive lineman Justin Hamilton (Louisiana, Dallas Cowboys) and defensive lineman Christian Ringo (Louisiana, New Orleans Saints) also contributed to the defensive stat line.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Kirk Merritt out of Arkansas State (1 Reception, 13 Yards), Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon out of Georgia Southern (3 Receptions, 26 Yards) and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Albert Wilson out of Georgia State (1 Reception, 11 Yards) caught passes in Week 9.
Running backs Elijah Mitchell of the San Francisco 49ers and Derrick Gore of the Kansas City Chiefs got touches on the ground and through the air. Louisiana product Mitchell tallied 36 yards on eight carries and 43 yards on five catches. ULM alumnus Gore registered 13 yards on three rushes and a six-yard reception.
Former Georgia Southern kicker Tyler Bass went 2-for-2 on field goals, connecting from 24 and 41 yards. Atlanta Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo, also out of Georgia Southern, was 2-for-2 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points, converting on a 32-yarder and a game-winning 29-yarder as time expired. Denver Broncos punter Sam Martin out of App State amassed 94 yards on three punts.
Akeem David-Gaither (App State, Cincinnati Bengals), Colby Gossett (App State, Atlanta Falcons), Shemar Jean-Charles (App State, Green Bay Packers), Tarron Jackson (Coastal Carolina, Philadelphia Eagles), Raymond Johnson III (Georgia Southern, New York Giants), Kevin Dotson (Louisiana, Pittsburgh Steelers), Robert Hunt (Louisiana, Miami Dolphins) and Aaron Brewer (Texas State, Tennessee Titans) also saw the field in Week 9.
Through nine games, Louisiana alumnus offensive lineman Robert Hunt has appeared on every offensive snap for the Miami Dolphins.
Forty-nine Sun Belt alumni—representing all 10 football programs—earned NFL roster spots entering the 2021 season, with 33 on active rosters, 11 on 16-man practice squads and two on injured reserve lists during Week 9.
