Following Nicholls State University football’s sixth straight win over rival Northwestern State, Colonel freshmen duo Collin Guggenheim and Hayden Shaheen were named Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Players of the Week, the organization announced Monday evening.
Guggenheim took home the weekly honor for offense after rushing for a career-high 158 yards and two touchdowns. Shaheen garnered the defensive award following his all-around performance against where he totaled five tackles, two for loss including one sack, and his first career interception.
A native of Kenner, Guggenheim recorded his second consecutive 100-yard effort in his first career start. He finished off a pair of drives in the third quarter with 3- and 2-yard touchdown runs to put Nicholls ahead, 42-14. For the game, Guggenheim averaged 7.2 yards per carry and did not get stopped for negative yardage. With the Colonels’ top three running backs on the depth chart out with injury, Guggenheim has been stellar as the feature back the last two weeks, averaging 140.5 yards rushing with three touchdowns.
Guggenheim was also recognized nationally earlier on Monday, earning Stats Perform FCS Freshman of the Week honorable mention.
