Pine trailed early in loss to Kentwood in Thursday’s league game at home

The Pine High School Raiders hosted the Kentwood Kangaroos on Thursday in the seventh game of the season. Pine went into the game after a victory over Independence High School the previous week. Kentwood came in off a win over Varnado.

Pine was defeated in Thursday’s game, 33-19.

The Kangaroos pushed hard in the first half with four touchdowns. Quarterback Eric Earl handed off to Ja’marion Barton from the Raiders’ 10-yard line for the first touchdown of the game. The extra point missed and put the score at 6-0 half way through the first quarter. Two minutes later, Earl passed to Kevante Carter from the Kangaroos’ own 23 yard line. Carter ran it all the way down field to put a second touchdown on the board. Earl attempted the two-point conversion, but his pass was incomplete and the score went to 12-0. Earl passed to Jermichael Carter with two minutes left in the first quarter from the Raiders’ 46-yard line.  Jermichael pushed through the the Raiders’ line and put another touchdown on the board. The extra point was good and the score went to 19-0.

The Raiders opened the second quarter with a quick handoff from Luke Spears to Andrianuen Johnson from the Kangaroo 2-yard line for the touchdown. The extra point kick was blocked and the score went to 19-6. With three minutes left in the half, Earl passed to Tyler Hookfin from the Kangaroo 42 yard line. Hookfin ran it through down the right side and put the Kangaroos’ fourth touchdown on the board. The extra point kick was good and the score went to 26-6 at halftime.

The Raiders’ defense stepped it up in the second half with the Kangaroos only able to put a single touchdown on the board. Opening the second half, the Raiders led a quick four-play drive to the end zone. A handoff from Spears to Johnson from the Kangaroos’ 14-yard line gave the Raiders their second touchdown. Spears attempted the two-point conversion, but the pass was incomplete and the score went to 26-12. The Kangaroos answered back, and with a handoff from Earl to Carmel Taylor at the 3-yard line, put their final touchdown on the board. The extra point was good and the score was 33-12.

With two minutes left in the game, the Raiders’ offense marshaled and put their third touchdown on the board. Spears handed off to Ke’Montre Magee from the 11-yard line. Magee ran around back and through the right side for the final touchdown of the game. Austin Warren’s extra point kick was good and the final score was 33-19.

Pine will be back in action on Thursday with a road game against Amite.
