The Southeastern Louisiana University women’s soccer team continues their six-game homestand this weekend when they face UIW Friday night at 7 p.m. and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Lady Lions (5-7-2, 3-4-2 Southland) will be eyeing their first win of the six-match home stretch. SLU dropped a pair of heartbreakers to Houston Baptist (5-8-2, 5-3-2 Southland) and league leader Northwestern State (8-4-3, 8-1-1 Southland) by one goal while tying with second place McNeese (10-4-2, 7-2-1 Southland).

Southeastern’s Mya Guillory, a first team preseason All-Southland selection, leads the team with 10 points for the season (3 goals, 4 assists). Sophomore Makenzie Maher has netted four goals for the team lead.

SLU will look to break the trend of bad luck when they face UIW (4-10-1, 4-5-0 Southland) Friday night. The Lady Lions defeated the Cardinals 2-1 on the road back on Sept. 26 thanks to goals from Claire Huston and Mia Milton.

The Cardinals are coming off a 2-0 loss to Northwestern State last Sunday but had won their previous two matches against McNeese and Houston Baptist.

UIW features a balanced offensive attack led by forward Sierra Wannamaker and midfielder Isabella Beletic with three goals each. The Cardinals also have eight players that have attempted 15 shots or more led by Keeley Ayala with 47.

Sunday, the Lady Lions will battle A&M-Corpus Christi (4-9-2, 2-5-2 SLC). SLU and the Islanders finished in a 1-1 tie Sept. 24 when the two teams met in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Islanders enter the weekend having lost four straight matches to UIW, Houston Baptist, Northwestern State and McNeese.

A&M-Corpus Christi’s Samantha Palomino leads the team with five goals and 16 shots on goal, complemented by senior forward Reaghan Lang with four goals.

The Lady Lions defeated A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-1, last season when the teams played in Hammond. SLU’s Mya Guillory, Makenzie Maher and Ellie Williams each scored a goal as the Lady Lions picked up the win.

SLU, however, enters the weekend with some work to do as they sit in fifth place in the Southland standings, one point behind UIW for fourth place.

Both matches will be streamed via ESPN+ with links to the match available at the Southeastern soccer schedule page located at LionSports.Net.
