Varnado’s Wildcats were defeated by Kentwood, 35-6, on the road in a District 9-2A game that was held Friday.

“They are a really good team but we didn’t play very well,” Varnado coach Adam Brumfield said. They scored early, (got) the momentum and kept it. We had a lot of young guys playing due to injuries and it’s good that they get some experience, but it’s difficult for them against a really good football team. We have a really tough match up once again (this) week with St. Helena and distractions that come along with the fair. Hopefully we can get a few good practices in and play a better game Thursday.”

Thursday’s road game against St. Helena College and Career Academy is also in district play.

Varnado is 2-5 overall this year and 0-2 in league play.

These teams have played in each of the last two years with St. Helena College and Career Academy winning both games, including last year’s 41-28 contest.

St. Helena College and Career Academy is 1-4 overall this season and 0-2 in district.

Last week, St. Helena College and Career Academy was topped by Amite, 31-24.
