Texas State’s Janell Fitzgerald and Emily DeWalt, and UTA’s Alli Wells all led their teams to undefeated weekends and have been named Sun Belt Volleyball Players of the Week. Fitzgerald garners the honor for the second consecutive week, while Wells claims her third accolade of the season.
Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Janell Fitzgerald, Texas State
(Sr., Mansfield, Texas)
Bobcats’ senior outside hitter Janell Fitzgerald totaled 29 kills and averaged 4.83 kills per set on a .343 hitting percentage as Texas State swept Little Rock and Arkansas State. Fitzgerald also led the Bobcats with 32.5 points and 5.42 points per set. Her .343 hitting percentage highlighted her team’s .300 hitting percentage across the two matches last week. Against Little Rock last Friday, Fitzgerald was one of four players to record double-digit kills as she charted 13 to go along with nine digs. She also had three total blocks and a service ace against the Trojans. Twenty-four hours later, Fitzgerald recorded her fifth double-double against Sun Belt Conference opponents this season as she finished with 16 kills on .417 hitting and 15 digs. To go along with an impressive offensive weekend, she also averaged four digs per set.
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Alli Wells, UTA
(So., Waxahachie, Texas)
Mavs’ sophomore libero Alli Wells helped her team to a pair of wins against Arkansas State and Little Rock this past weekend. She finished with 50 kills in eight sets for a 6.25 digs per set average. Wells also finished with 1.63 assists per set from her libero position.
Volleyball Setter of the Week

Bobcats’ senior setter Emily DeWalt averaged 14.83 assists per set and 4.17 digs per set while orchestrating a Texas State offense that averaged 19 kills per set on a .300 hitting percentage while on the road in Sun Belt Conference play this past weekend. She followed Friday’s performance with a 44-assist, 11-dig outing in a sweep against Arkansas State on Saturday.
