SLU travels to Jackson State for rescheduled match

The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team travels to Jackson State for a 6 p.m. non-conference match Tuesday at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. Postponed in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, the contest was originally scheduled for early September.

SLU (6-12) enters the match having won back-to-back contests overall and three consecutive on the road. Jackson State (8-10) is riding an eight-game winning streak after dropping its first 10 matches of the season.

Lady Lion freshman Cicily Hidalgo, an outside hitter from Opelousas, Louisiana, leads the Southland Conference in total kills (294), kills per set (3.97), points (317.5), points per set (4.29), total attacks (831) and attacks per set (11.23).

Other key personnel driving the SLU offensive attack are Karlee Wilkerson (2.49 k/set), a senior from Springfield, Louisiana, Addie Vidrine (1.86 k/set), a junior from Lafayette, Louisiana, and middle blocker Crispin Adams (1.84 k/set), a preseason All-Conference selection from Brookshire, Texas.

Gracie Duplechein (7.84 a/set), a freshman from St. Amant currently ranks third in the conference in total assists (542).

Hannah Brewer, a freshman from Benton, Arkansas, ranks sixth in blocks (0.98 b/set) while Ansley Tullis, a sophomore libero from Slidell, Louisiana, leads the team with 4.10 digs per set and ranks seventh in the Southland.

Jackson State is led offensively by Alexis Williams (3.91 k/set), Olivia Flanagan (2.55 k/set) and Damassy Thompson (8.07 a/set). Trinity Bryant (3.19 d/set) and Marina Bianchi Brito (0.73 b/set) are the Lady Tigers’ top defenders.

UP NEXT

The Lady Lions return home to the University Center for a pair of Southland Conference matches later this week, hosting Nicholls at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and New Orleans at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Southeastern Athletics will celebrate Halloween early in conjunction with Thursday’s match, as fans are encouraged to wear their best Halloween costumes and the first 150 students will receive free food.
