After leading their teams to victory this week, South Alabama’s Jake Bentley, Troy’s Carlton Martial and ULM’s Calum Sutherland reap Sun Belt weekly honors.

Football Offensive Player of the Week
Jake Bentley, South Alabama
(Sr., QB – Opelika, Ala.)

Jaguars senior quarterback Jake Bentley set single-game program records with 389 passing yards and 397 yards of total offense, while becoming the first player in program history to account for five touchdowns in a contest. The Opelika, Ala., native helped South Alabama post a season-best 405 yards through the air and 545 yards of total offense—which rank second and fourth, respectively—in the Jaguar record book. While completing 24-of-31 passes, Bentley led South Alabama to its first-ever victory over Georgia Southern, 41-14.

Football Defensive Player of the Week
Carlton Martial, Troy
(Jr., LB – Mobile, Ala.)

Trojans junior linebacker Carlton Martial recorded his 15th career game with double-digit tackles and multiple tackles for a loss as the Trojans downed Texas State, 31-28. The Mobile, Ala., product registered 18 tackles, including a pair for a loss, in the victory. Martial’s 18 tackles are the second-most in the NCAA this season and the second-most by Martial in his career. The Martial-led Troy defense held Texas State to less than 100 yards rushing, the fourth game in which the Trojans have held their opponent under the century mark this season.

Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Calum Sutherland, ULM
(Sr., K – Keller, Texas)

ULM senior kicker Calum Sutherland delivered a career-long 53-yard field goal with 1:44 to play to seal the Warhawks 31-28 upset over Liberty. The Keller, Texas, native accounted for seven points, hitting all four of his extra points to go along with his game-winning field goal. Sutherland is the first repeat recipient of the Sun Belt Football Special Teams Player of the Week honor this season.
