After enjoying a couple of off weeks, the Southern Miss men’s golf team returns to action this weekend when they travel to Raleigh, N.C., for the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, Saturday and Sunday.

The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 59 by Golfweek and No. 63 by Golfstat, play in the 54-hole event which takes place on the championship tees at the par 72, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The 13-team field will play 36 holes on Saturday and complete the event with 18 more on Sunday.

“Lonnie Poole is a great track for college golf,” said Southern Miss coach Eddie Brescher. “This course has hosted multiple postseason events in the past. Our team did well the last time we played this event, so having good previous results will be something we lean on this week.”

The Golden Eagles are one of three teams ranked in the Top 100 in the field, including host and No. 45 NC State along with UNCG at No. 77 by Golfweek. The field also includes Campbell, East Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Elon, Furman, High Point, James Madison, Lipscomb, UNCW and Wofford.

“Currently our national ranking is in a good spot,” said Brescher. “However, we have a lot of golf to play this season. We will continue to focus on taking it one shot at a time with no expectations on results. We will do our best to execute each shot and let the cards fall where they may.”

The Southern Miss lineup with consist of senior Hunter Atkins of West Point, Miss., currently ranked the No. 95 golfer in the men’s collegiate rankings by Golfweek, sophomore Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand), senior Brice Wilkinson (Madison, Miss.), sophomore Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontario) and freshman Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.).

This fall the program has enjoyed two finishes within in the top three in team competitions. The team averages 282.7 strokes per round this fall and have already posted a cumulative individual total of 25 rounds of par or better.
