SLU cross country teams to compete in Watson Invitational on Saturday

The Southeastern Louisiana University men’s and women’s cross country teams will race in the Watson Invitational Saturday morning at Choctaw Trails in Clinton beginning at 8:15 a.m. with the men’s 8k and 9 a.m. with the women’s 6k.

On the men’s side two-time Southland Conference Athlete of the Week Bradley Makuvire leads the way with two victories under his belt this year. The sophomore won the LSU Invitational 6k race Sept. 17 and the Nicholls Invitational 4-mile on Oct. 2.

Joining Makuvire will be Julius Kemper, Thomas Daigle, Colton Johnson, Noah Kiprotich and Tyler Clemmons. Kemper, Kiprotich and Daigle each finished in the top 10 at Nicholls helping the Lions to a runner up finish.

On the women’s side Bernadette Tournoux looks to repeat her performance at Nicholls where she finished eighth.

Tournoux will compete with her twin sister, Brigid, Haley Dupree, Indya Jackson Nina Sorapuru and Amber Stroughter in the women’s 6k race.

Saturday’s race marks the final tune-up before SLU heads to the Southland Conference Championships Friday, Oct. 29 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
