Southern Miss junior defensive back Camron Harrell (Bradley, Ill.) captured the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance last Saturday at Rice in the Golden Eagles’ league opener at Rice.

Harrell registered a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and also recovered an onside kick to almost single-handedly lead Southern Miss to a comeback in its 24-19 setback against the Owls. The kick return for a score was the second of his career, tying the school mark for most kickoff returns for a touchdown. He is the eighth Golden Eagle to ever accomplish that feat.

Harrell also added three tackles in the contest. He joins WKU quarterback Bailey Zappe (offensive) and Middle Tennessee safety Reed Blankenship (defensive) as the league’s winners for the week.

The award is the second for Harrell in his career and first for the Golden Eagles this season.

Southern Miss returns to action this weekend when they entertain UTEP for homecoming. Game time is set for 6 p.m., this Saturday, Oct. 9, at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
