South Alabama’s Kirami Yego and App State’s Izzy Evely each led their team this past week with standout performances to garner Sun Belt Cross Country Runner of the Week accolades.
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Kirami Yego, South Alabama
(Fr., Kapenguria, Kenya)
Jaguars’ freshman Kirami Yego posted his second consecutive top-five finish, this week at the South Region Preview hosted by North Alabama. With his fourth-place finish at the meet against some of the region’s top teams, Yego has finished inside the top-three in five of his six career races. Yego set a new personal best for the second consecutive week as his 8K time of 23:47.39 was nearly a minute faster than his previous best at that distance. The time was also the ninth-fastest by a male Jaguar runner in the 8K, eclipsing former South Alabama standout Tonny Okello’s time of 23:54 in 2006. This is the second consecutive Sun Belt Conference Runner of the Week honor for Yego.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

Her time of 17:29.08 (5K) was her fastest this season, while she placed fourth for her second straight top-10 finish. She helped her App State team to a second-place finish at the Firetower Project.
