Hidalgo earns Southland Offensive Player of the Week honors

Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball player Cicily Hidalgo was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The Southland’s weekly awards are presented by GEICO.
In back-to-back matches this past weekend at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Brookings, South Dakota, Hidalgo posted the two highest kill totals recorded by a Southland player this season. She tallied 23 kills against Drake and another 25 kills against Idaho, with both totals marking a new career-best.
The freshman from Opelousas, Louisiana picked up 60 total kills in three matches (15 sets) and hit .233 on the way to earning All-Tournament Team honors. She also recorded her third double-double of the season, posting 10 digs against Drake. She also added a pair of aces and three assists
Hidalgo sits atop the Southland charts with 144 kills and 10.29 attacks per set. SLU wraps up its nonconference schedule Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Southern Miss.
Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
