South Alabama’s Yego, UTA’s Arntsen earn Sun Belt Cross Country Runner of the Week honors

South Alabama’s Kirami Yego and UTA’s Anne Arntsen each led their teams with outstanding performances this past week to claim Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week honors. It is the second consecutive week that Arntsen has earned the accolade.
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Kirami Yego, South Alabama

Jaguars’ freshman Kirami Yego, running his first cross country race of the season, set a new personal best in the 5K at the Azalea City Classic in Mobile, Ala., with a time of 15:18.2 to take home the event’s individual title. He crossed the finish line 22 seconds faster than the next-fastest runner. It marked the second consecutive season in which Yego won the meet and the fourth year in a row that a South Alabama male runner paced the field. As a team, South Alabama won the meet title with 15 points as the Jags captured the top six spots and all seven runners competing finished ninth or better.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Anne Arntsen, UTA
(Fr., Grimstad, Norway)
Mavs’ freshman Anne Arntsen posted her second consecutive second-place finish, this week at the UTA Season Opener in Grand Prairie, Texas. She completed her first collegiate 5K in a time of 17:46.9. Arntsen was one of four UTA runners to finish in the top-20 individually, leading to a second-place team finish.
