After a remarkable performance against 27th-ranked Arizona State last Sunday that nearly resulted in a stunning upset, the Southeastern Louisiana University women’s soccer team looks to build momentum when they host Alcorn State in the home opener Friday night at 7:05 p.m. before taking on Louisiana Tech on the road Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Lady Lions (0-2) are coming off a 2-1 loss to Arizona State in which they led 1-0 with just 10 minutes remaining in the match. However, the Sun Devils scored in the 80th minute and then scored the game-winner with 45 seconds left in regulation to prevent SLU’s upset bid in the Arizona desert.

“We need to do a little bit better job of connecting the ball between our units this week,” said SLU head coach Chris McBride. “But it was a great experience for us last weekend and we can now move forward and learn from that this week.”

Southeastern now turns the page to Alcorn State (1-0) out of the SWAC. The Lady Braves defeated Talladega Sunday at home 11-0 but have not fared well against SLU. Southeastern is 7-0 all time against ASU including a 9-0 win back in 2014.

Sunday, the Lady Lions will travel north to Ruston, Louisiana to take on Louisiana Tech (2-1). SLU is 2-4 all-time against the Lady Techsters with LTU edging the Lady Lions, 1-0, on Aug. 23, 2019 in Hammond.

The Lady Techsters have a new look this year under first-year head coach Steve Voltz. LTU added 18 newcomers to the rosters. Early on, Louisiana Tech has shown balance on the offensive attack in wins over East Texas Baptist and Louisiana Tech. LTU has had 17 different players attempt shots and 10 that have scored goals while also recording a pair of shutouts.

“They’re pretty defensive and disciplined and look to counter attack,” said McBride. “It’ll be a similar game plan from both teams I would think so it should be a very competitive match.”

Live video and stats will be available for both Friday and Sunday’s matches. Friday’s match will be broadcast on ESPN+. Sunday’s match at Louisiana Tech will be available at ConferenceUSA.com with links to both matches available at the Southeastern women’s soccer schedule page at LionSports.Net.
