After taking the previous two days off following the completion of fall camp, the Southern Miss football team returned to the practice fields Tuesday with less than two weeks to go before its season opener at South Alabama.
While the Golden Eagles don’t play for another week, the team began its transition into its weekly practice routine. For first-year coach Will Hall, today was Competition Tuesday, which will take place every week and gives players a chance to solidify or improve their playing time chances.
“Great Competition Tuesday today,” said Hall. “I can’t wait to get in there and watch the tape to see who won some starting jobs today and who won an opportunity to get into the mix for this upcoming rest of the week. We are going to compete good-on-good every Tuesday and then towards the end of practice we start transitioning towards our opponent.”
The Golden Eagles concluded fall camp last Saturday with the team’s second scrimmage and then took both Sunday and Monday off – as yesterday was the start of the fall semester for the University.
Hall called the team’s final scrimmage of camp an extremely physical one and said that the play of the offensive line really stood out on film, despite a few injuries across the line of scrimmage with the defensive side.
Hall also praised the play of the starting defensive backs, especially when it came to deep pass routes, including junior Camron Harrell, who has enjoyed a solid preseason.
The Golden Eagles continue preparations for the Saturday, Sept. 4 opener at Mobile as they return to the practice fields on Wednesday.
