On Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, at 10:22 p.m., surrounded by his family, Deacon Lester Anthony heard God’s voice calling and he answered the call. He departed this earthly life for his heavenly home prepared for him.

Deacon Lester was a member of the Deacon Board, Brotherhood, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Member of the pastor’s Aide Committee, State Brotherhood, and church van driver.

He was employed with the Washington Parish School System for more than 20 years, serving as Crossing Guard and Custodian.

He leaves unforgettable memories to be cherished by his seven children, Shonda Anthony of Baton Rouge, Quincy Anthony of Washington, D.C., Lester A. Anthony of Metairie, Kanita (Calvin) Dubose-Bailey of Atlanta, Ga., Marshall (Latrice) Anthony of Houston, Texas, Felicia (Myran) Anthony Robinson of Franklinton, and Alicia Anthony of Covington; three sisters, Irma Tuckson of New Orleans, Lonie Mae Anthony of Algiers and Freddie Young of Covington; and one brother, Murphy (Patricia) Anthony of New Orleans; he was blessed with 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; he is also survived by a special friend, Mrs. Shirley Hitchens of New Orleans; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Shirley Anthony; his parents, Marshall and Ethel Anthony; sisters, Betty Bickham and Catha Beard; and brothers, Andrew Anthony and Roy Hart.

The drive-through viewing will be Friday, Aug. 27, at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 28, at New Jerusalem Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Johnny Causey officiating. Interment will be at St. James Cemetery. Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Franklinton is in charge of arrangements. Sign the guestbook online at www.crainandsons.com.
