State reports 87 new COVID-19 deaths, about 6K cases

The Louisiana Department of Health released updated statistics about the COVID-19 pandemic Wednesday at noon.
The LDH reported 87 new deaths in Wednesday’s update, bringing the overall total to 11,793 deaths since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020. There were 122 deaths reported Tuesday.
Also Wednesday, the LDH reported 6,606 new cases of COVID, bringing the total cases reported since the start of the pandemic to 638,443. There were 3,691 new cases reported Tuesday.
The LDH reported that there were 3,022 COVID patients in hospitals, and 448 of those were on ventilators. In Tuesday’s report, there were 3,012 hospitalizations and 441 ventilators in use.
LDH officials also reported that non-fully-vaccinated residents made up 89 percent of the cases reported from Aug. 5 through Aug. 11, and 80 percent of the deaths in that same time period. In addition, 91 percent of current COVID hospitalizations are patients who are not fully vaccinated, according to the LDH.
Since the start of the pandemic, Washington Parish has reported 6,377 cases and 159 deaths.
