Rachelle “Angel” Stewart

Rachelle “Angel” Godbolt Stewart was born on Jan. 11, 1969, to the late Ellis Godbolt and the late Brenda Washington. She departed this life and peacefully ascended to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 22, 2021.

Angel was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church since childhood. She attended Bogalusa High School and graduated in 1987. Angel attended Southern University in Baton Rouge. She was a very smart woman and a devoted mother. Angel was an avid reader of many genres of books. Her intellect enabled her to hold different positions in the administrative office at Rest Haven Nursing Home until her health declined.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, William Stewart; sons, Trevor Godbolt of Baton Rouge and Tyler Stewart of Bogalusa; step-sons, William Stewart Jr. of Covington and Shelton Stewart of Bogalusa; her brothers, Rodafa “Roy” (Cynthia) Godbolt, Roderick “Lovin” Godbolt, Fred (Janet) Godbolt and Cory (Tisha) Pearson, all of Bogalusa; one sister, Robin Short (James) Dillon of Bogalusa; sister-in-law, Sylvia Stewart of Baton Rouge; brother-in-law, Walter (Kenny) Stewart; aunts, Shirley Godbolt Holloway and Brenda Spann Godbolt, both of Bogalusa; uncles, Burdex (Yolanda) Washington and Lamont Godbolt, both of Bogalusa, Terry (Syconda) Washington of Amite and Alfred Brown of New Orleans; godfather, Ray Fields; and a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ellis Godbolt Sr.; her mother, Brenda Washington; grandparents, J.D. (Louise) Godbolt Sr. and Walter (Mattie Louise) Washington Sr.; brothers, Ellis Godbolt Jr., Tarras Godbolt, Gralin Godbolt and Calvin Short; aunts, Barbara Godbolt Norris, Jacqueline Sartin Godbolt and Mary Alice Levi; and uncles, Benny E. Godbolt, J.D. Godbolt Jr., Walter Washington Jr. and Donald Norris.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 31, at 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Keith Cowart officiating. Visitation will start at 10:30 a.m. and continue until the time of the service.
