Bogalusa’s Raheem Roberts capped off his high school career with a personal record and a second-place finish in the Class 3A state javelin meet that took place on May 7 at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

Roberts threw the javelin 167 feet, 6 inches, which was his best. Madison Prep’s Zeon Chriss won the title with a throw of 169-7.

“It felt good to do that (setting a PR),” Roberts said. “I was really aiming for 170, but I’ll take a 167. I wanted to throw a 170 this year.”

Roberts, who is a senior, talked about his performance.

“At first I was at the bottom because I wasn’t doing so well, but then on my last throw, I had on my mind that it was going to be my last high school throw,” Roberts said. “I just threw it as hard as I could. At first I thought I had gotten first place, but when I looked at the thing (scoreboard), it said I was second.”
