Varnado went 2-3 in final week of regular season

Varnado’s Wildcats posted a 2-3 record in District 9-2A games held April 20-22.
On April 20, Varnado came back from an 11-0 first-inning deficit to top Amite, 16-15, on a walkoff single by Jamari Lewis that plated Zyquantay Bickham from second base in a game that took place at Pine.
Jamari Lewis posted two hits.
Collin Lozier posted a hit.
The game was originally scheduled to be played at the Bogalusa Sports Complex on Avenue B, but Varnado coach Mark Barnwell said it was moved to Pine because the fields were too wet.
Barnwell gave Pine coach Blake Dillon a shoutout for allowing them to use their field.
On April 21, Varnado was defeated in a doubleheader by Kentwood, 14-5 and 14-7, on the road.
Brandon Jefferson had a two-run single in the first game.
D’Angelo Bickham and Tyree Matthews posted a single each.
Jefferson stole two bases in the second contest.
Varnado closed out the regular season with a split of a doubleheader against Independence in road games on April 22 that capped off the regular season.
The Wildcats won 6-4 and were defeated 15-7.
In the 6-4 game, Jefferson had a shutout going into the sixth inning and then held on for the win. Offensively, Jefferson singled, doubled and drove in two runs.
Matthews both recorded two hits and an RBI.
Tyran Holmes, Lozier and Everette Peters all posted two hits.
In the 15-7 contest, Jefferson posted a hit and stole home plate.
Holmes, Lozier and Matthews all had one hit.
