Wildcats split games with St. Helena, Independence

Varnado’s Wildcats went 1-1 in District 9-2A games against St. Helena College and Career Academy and Independence.
The contests were held on Jan. 19 and Friday.
On Jan. 19, Varnado came up short to St. Helena College and Career Academy, 63-62, at home.
Jaheim Hooks and ZyQuantay Bickham tied for being the Wildcats’ top scorers with 14 points each. Hooks tallied six rebounds, four steals and four assists. Bickham posted 14 points, two steals and three rebounds.
Miguel Fland recorded 11 points, four boards and three rebounds.
Caluntay Jackson missed a double-double by just one rebound. Jackson went for 11 points
and nine boards and he blocked two shots.
On Friday, Varnado was victorious over Independence, 59-27, on the road.
Jackson led the Wildcats in points with 12 to go with seven rebounds, two steals and three blocks.
Quanta Peters tallied 11 points, seven steals, three assists and a pair of steals.
Hooks posted 10 points, five assists, four boards and four steals.
Elizah Miller had nine points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Varnado will be back in action on Jan. 26 with a home game against Kentwood.
