Varnado High School’s Tanisha Brister

Varnado High School’s Tanisha Brister is a three-sport athlete.

The senior plays basketball and softball and is a member of the track and field team.

In basketball, she is a guard and a forward. In softball, Brister plays shortstop and second base. In track and field, she triple jumps and runs the 100 meters.

Brister was an all-district honorable mention player in basketball.

“I have had the privilege of coaching Tanisha this year,” Varnado girls basketball coach Lynell Hanson said. “In just this short time, she has been an inspiration to me. She always gives her best effort and never gives up. She is an amazing basketball player who can play any position and completes any task I trust her with doing so with her whole heart. She is such a joy, and I consider myself blessed to have the opportunity to be her coach during her senior year of high school. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for her. I know she will continue to do great things!”

What do you enjoy most about playing your sports?

What I enjoy most about my sport is basically just going out there and having fun. I just enjoying the game of basketball and competing with others to win.

What do you like best about being a student athlete?

What I like best about being a student athlete is that I get to be somebody the next generation looks up to. Being a good role model for the people under me. Having them come to me for help about bettering themselves at the sport and me being there teaching them, trying to make them better than I am.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?

The most influential person in my school sports career is my oldest brother, Tyrese Brister, because he’s always been there for me. He supports me more than anything. He taught me the game and how to play it. He’s the best big brother anybody can ask for. Sometimes I show him films of me playing on the court and ask him what he thinks I should work on and what he thinks I need to improve on. He just helps me in every way.

Who is your favorite athlete? Why?

My favorite athlete is (former Los Angeles Lakers guard and the late) Kobe Bryant because the guy was humble. He was grinding and he was all about the game of basketball. On off days, he never laid around and rested. He was in the gym getting some shots up. He shot 100 shots everyday he touched a gym floor and didn’t leave until he shot that amount of shots. Nothing could take Kobe off his game when he was in his prime. He knew what he wanted and he went and got it.

Favorite team?

Los Angeles Lakers.
