The International Paper Foundation has awarded a generous grant to the Washington Parish Library for the sum of $10,000 through the Friends of the Washington Parish Library organization to be used for the 2021 Summer Reading Program.
The grant will enable each of the library branches to add new books to the children’s collections and to purchase additional books and promotional items to give to each child who participates in the program. This year, the theme for the Summer Reading Program is “Tails and Tales,” and all purchased items will support that theme through a wide range of books from animal tails to fairy tales.
The generous grant funding is a great boost for each of the library branches at Franklinton, Enon, Bogalusa, and Thomas and will benefit children of all ages. The Friends organization consistently provides support for the library branches by also providing funds for the purchase of additional items, such as Story Time snacks, drinks, and supplies for craft activities.
The Friends organization also provides funding for the prize drawings that the library offers during various holidays to promote reading. Library staff and patrons are deeply grateful to the International Paper Foundation, as well as to the Friends of the Library for their invaluable support of the library for many years.
That support has had an ongoing positive impact on many children in the community who enjoy the many books and incentive items distributed over the years.
The library encourages patrons to look in the front cover of many of our children’s books for the sticker indicating that the book is a donation from International Paper Foundation.
