Pine’s Raiders take to the road this week for the opening week of the Class 2A playoffs and will play against Port Allen on Friday at 7 p.m.
“It’s always a goal to get to the playoffs,” Pine coach Bradley Seal said. “We’re excited to be here. Port Allen’s got a good quarterback. They like to run the ball with him. We have to be able to contain him to give ourself a chance to win.”
No. 23 Pine went 2-5 in the regular season.
The Raiders last played Nov. 13 against Amite and were defeated 35-7. They were scheduled to play Varnado, but that game was canceled because of COVID-19 concerns at VHS.
Against Amite, Luke Spears threw for 95 yards and a touchdown.
Niki Lee caught a 60-yard touchdown pass from Spears.
Adrianuen Johnson ran for 53 yards.
No. 10 Port Allen enters with a 5-2 record. Port Allen was defeated by Episcopal, 31-18, on Friday.
The winner plays either seventh-seeded and defending Class 2A state champion Ferriday (5-1). Ferriday was scheduled to play against East Feliciana, but the Class 2A bracket on www.lhsaa.org has that game as a forfeit by East Feliciana, meaning that Ferriday advances to the second round.
